This was the first painting I finished that fitted in with the "story" I want to tell through my work. A world of global mega-corporations and consumerism. I wanted to mix "punk" style protest and my love of Japanese pop-culture such as anime and manga.
One rule I set myself from the very start was that all characters would be original. Far too much modern pop art relies on just copying existing pop-culture icons (and usually filling the background with luxury brand logos). There's plenty of great art that subverts existing pop-culture, and I'm totally a fan of that when done right.
There is a specific style of anime from the late 80s/early 90s that I really love and hopefully I've captured in this painting.
